성경 봉독 (예레미야서 23:5-6)
내가 다윗에게서 의로운 가지가 하나 돋아나게 할 그 날이 오고 있다. 나 주의 말이다. 그는 왕이 되어 슬기롭게 통치하면서, 세상에 공평과 정의를 실현할 것이다.
그 때가 오면 유다가 구원을 받을 것이며, 이스라엘이 안전한 거처가 될 것이다. 사람들이 그 이름을 '주님은 우리의 구원이시다'라고 부를 것이다.

(Jeremiah 23:5-6, NASB) 
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, 
“When I shall raise up for David a righteous Branch;” 
And He will reign as king and act wisely 
And do justice and righteousness in the land.
In His days Judah will be saved, 
And Israel will dwell securely; 
And this is His name by which He will be called, 
‘The LORD our righteousness.’

05- 왕으로 오신 예수 (렘 23:5)
올해 9월에 영국의 엘리자베스 여왕이 향년 96세로 서거했습니다. 영국 왕실은 상징적인 역할이고 실제적인 통치권은 의회와 수상에게 있기 때문에 70년간 재위했음에도 불구하고 독재라는 말은 나오지 않습니다. 
작년에는 결혼생활을 74년간 함께 해왔던 필립공이 99세의 나이로 별세했었는데, 그들의 한결같은 사랑과 결혼생활이 국민들에게 본이 되어 더 존경을 받기도 했습니다.
In September during this past year, Queen Elizabeth of England passed away at the age of 96. While the parliament and prime minister actually hold the ruling power, the British royal family plays a symbolic role, so despite 70 years of reign, there is no mention of a dictatorship. 
Last year, Prince Philip passed away at the age of 99, and he and Queen Elizabeth had been married for 74 years. They set an example with their unchanging love for one another in their marriage, and this earned them even more respect.

국민들에게 조문의 기회를 허락했는데, 자발적인 조문 행렬이 너무 길어서 24시간을 서 있기도 했습니다. 영국의 국민 축구 스타 베컴도 13시간 줄을 서서 조문을 했습니다. 경찰이 당신은 줄 서지 않고 바로 와도 된다고 했는데도 사양하고 줄을 섰다고 합니다.
The people were given the opportunity to express their condolences, but the voluntary procession was so long that they had to stand for 24 hours. 
England's national soccer star Beckham also paid his condolences by standing in line for 13 hours. Even though the police told him that he could come right away without standing in line, he refused and waited.

영국의 역사를 보면 17세기에 왕실과 의회의 갈등으로 크롬웰이 찰스 1세를 사형시키고 군주제를 공화국으로 개혁해서 10년간 통치했지만, 그가 죽고 나서 영국은 다시 군주제를 선택했습니다.
If we look at the history of England, in the 17th century, due to the conflict between the royal family and parliament, Oliver Cromwell executed King Charles the first and reformed the monarchy into a republic and ruled for 10 years, but after his death, England again wanted the monarchy.

현대에도 왕실 폐지론을 주장하는 사람들이 있지만, 아직도 대다수의 국민들을 왕실을 영국의 자랑스런 전통으로 생각합니다.
그리고 왕실이 영연방을 하나로 묶어주는 통합의 역할을 합니다. 그리고 왕이 백성들을 학정하면서 독재하는 것이 아니라, 국민들에게 자부심을 주는 역할을 할 때 대중의 사랑을 받게 되었던 것입니다.
Even today there are advocates of abolitionism, but most people still consider the royal family a proud British tradition. And the royal family serves as the unifying force that holds the Commonwealth together. Instead of being a tyrant and a dictator, the king was loved by the public when he worked for his people and made them proud.
구약성경 사무엘상에 보면, 아직 왕이 없이 ‘부족연맹체’였던 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님께 왕을 세워달라고 요청하는 이야기가 나옵니다.
사무엘 선지자는 ‘하나님께서 왕이신데 왜 굳이 사람 왕을 세워달라고 하느냐?’ 하고 반발했습니다. 그러나 결국 하나님은 왕정 제도를 하락하셨습니다.
In the Old Testament, in 1 Samuel, the Israelites, who had no king and were a ‘tribal federation’, asked God to appoint a king. Prophet Samuel opposed, saying, 'God is the king, so why bother to appoint a human king?' But in the end, God allowed the monarchical system.

왕이 있으면 뭐가 좋길래 사람들은 왕을 요구했을까요?
당시에 왕은 신을 대리하는 강력한 존재였습니다.
초두에 말씀드린 영국의 왕들도, ‘왕권신수설’(divine right of kings) 즉 왕은 신이 내리신 사람이라는 신앙과 권위를 갖고 통치할 수 있었습니다.
What do you think was good about having a king that the people asked for one? At that time, the king was a powerful being representing the gods. 
The British kings mentioned at the beginning were also able to rule with faith and authority appointed to them as a ‘divine right’, that is, the people believed that the king was a person given by God.

현대에도 왕은 없지만, 사람들은 자신들이 따를 강력한 리더를 원합니다. 사람들이 연예인들에게 열광한다든지, 유명인들의 SNS를 팔로우한다든지 하는 심리가 비슷합니다.
전 세계에서 인스타그램 가장 많은 팔로워를 가진 사람이 누군줄 아세요? 1위 호날두와 2위 메시입니다. 각기 5억, 4억 명의 팔로워를 보유하고 있습니다.
Even in modern times while there are no kings, people still want strong leaders they can follow.
The psychology of people going crazy for celebrities or following famouse people on social media is similar. Do you know who has the most followers on Instagram in the world? Number 1 is Cristiano Ronaldo and number 2 is Lionel Messi. They have 500 million and 400 million followers, respectively.
그렇다면 여러분들이 가장 열광하고 따르는 대상은 누구입니까?
여러분 인생의 왕은 누구입니까? 여러분들의 왕이 예수님이시길 바랍니다.
So, who do you rave about and follow? Who is the king of your life? May your King be Jesus.

오늘 본문에 나오는 다윗의 후손으로 오는 구원의 왕은 누구를 뜻할까요? 성탄절의 주인공인 예수 그리스도를 예언한 말씀입니다.
Who is the king of salvation who comes as a descendant of David in today's text? This is a prophecy of Jesus Christ, the main character of Christmas.

(누가복음 1:30-33) 천사가 마리아에게 말하였다. "두려워하지 말아라. 마리아야, 그대는 하나님의 은혜를 입었다. 
31 보아라, 그대가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 터이니, 그의 이름을 예수라고 하여라. 
32 그는 위대하게 되고, 더없이 높으신 분의 아들이라고 불릴 것이다. 주 하나님께서 그에게 그의 조상 다윗의 왕위를 주실 것이다. 
33 그는 영원히 야곱의 집을 다스리고, 그의 나라는 무궁할 것이다." 

(Luke 1:30-33) And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.
31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.
32 "He will be great, and will be called 
the Son of the Most High; 
and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;
33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom will have no end. "

그 왕은 또 슬기롭게 통치하고 공의를 행하는 왕으로 예언했습니다.
He was prophesied to be a king who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.

(고전 1:30) 그러나 여러분은 하나님의 자녀로서 그리스도 예수 안에 있습니다. 그는 우리에게 하나님으로부터 오는 지혜가 되시며, 의와 거룩함과 구원이 되셨습니다. 
(1 Corinthians 1:30) But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,

역시 예수 그리스도를 통해서 성취되었다는 것을 확인할 수 있습니다.
We can confirm that it was accomplished through Jesus Christ.

그렇다면 세상의 ‘영향력있는 사람’이 아니라, 예수님을 여러분의 왕으로 모시는 사람의 특징은 무엇일까요?
Then, what are the characteristics of a person who serves Jesus as their king?

1) 첫째, 왕은 절대적인 힘으로 나라를 다스립니다. 그래서 백성들은 왕의 명령에 절대 복종합니다.
1) First, The king rules the country with absolute power. 
So the people completely obey the king's orders.

-여러분들은 하나님의 능력을 믿고 그 분의 말씀에 순종하고 있습니까? 찬양할 때만, ‘왕이신 나의 하나님, 높임을 받으소서!’ 라고 아름답게 노래하고 실제 삶에서는 내 맘대로 살지는 않습니까?
-Do you believe in God's power and obey His Word?
Only when praising, don't we sing beautifully, "My God, the King, be exalted!" and live as we please in real life? 

그래서 예수님을 왕으로 모시고 사는 사람은, 그분을 위해서 시간과 물질을 기꺼이 드립니다.
Those who live by worshiping Jesus as King in their lives are willing to give their time and materials for Him.

그러나 자기 스스로 왕좌에 앉아있는 사람은, 오직 자신만을 위해서 돈과 시간을 사용하는 것입니다.
내년에는 주님을 위해서 여러분의 삶을 좀 더 드려보시기 바랍니다.
But the person who rules his life like he is king only uses money and time for himself. Next year, I hope you will give more of your life to the Lord.

2) 둘째로, 왕은 백성들을 자식같이 사랑하고 침략으로부터 보호해줍니다. 그래서 백성들은 왕과 왕실을 사랑하고 존경합니다.
2) Secondly, the king loves his people like his children and protects them from danger.
So the people love and respect the king and the royal family.

-여러분들은 하나님의 은총을 찬양하고 사랑하고 있습니까?
-Are you praising and loving God for His grace?

나쁜 독재자들과 선하고 존경받는 왕의 차이가 어디에 있을까요?
What is the difference between bad dictators and good and respected kings?

독재자들은 총으로 위협하는 공포정치로 백성들을 통치합니다. 백성들은 독재자가 너무 싫은데 죽기 무서워서 할 수 없이 복종합니다. 그러나 뒤에서는 원망하고 욕을 합니다.
Dictators rule the people by terror, threatening them with guns.
The people hate the dictator, but they obey because they are afraid of being killed.
However, behind his back, they curse and resent him. 

그러나 선한 왕은 백성들을 위해서 희생하고 ‘민생고’를 해결하기 위해서 기꺼이 궁궐을 나와 백성들과 함께 합니다.
However, a good king willingly leaves the palace and joins the people to give himself up for them and to solve the people's economic plight.
 
한국인들이 가장 존경하는 인물을 조사하면 항상 1, 2위를 다투는 인물이 이순신과 세종대왕입니다.
When surveying the person Koreans admire the most, general Yi Sun-sin and King Sejong always compete for first and second place.

세종대왕이 치세 기간 동안 가장 자주 한 말은 “민(民)은 나라의 근본인 동시에 군주의 하늘이다”는 말이었습니다. 
‘내 백성을 사람답게 살 수 있게 해 주어야 한다’는 신념으로 그는 신하들의 반대에도 불구하고 한글을 창제해서 반포했습니다.
King Sejong's most frequent statement during his reign was "The people are the foundation of the country and at the same time the head of the monarch." 
With the belief that ‘I must allow my people to live like human beings’, he created and distributed Hangeul (the Korean alphabet) despite the objections of his subjects.

이렇게 백성들을 사랑하고 희생했기 때문에 백성들도 왕을 진심으로 존경하고 사랑했던 것입니다.
Because he loved and sacrificed for the people like this, they sincerely respected and loved him.

-예수님께서는 하늘의 영광을 버리고 누추하고 낮은 이 세상으로 오셨습니다.
그리고 백성들을 구하기 위해서 왕이신 주님께서 희생하셨습니다.
-Jesus gave up the glory of heaven and humbly came to this lowly world.
And as the King and Lord, He sacrificed Himself to save the people.

이번 성탄절이 이렇게 공의로운 왕의 탄생을 기뻐하고 찬양하는 시간이 되시길 바랍니다.
I hope this Christmas will be a time to rejoice and praise the birth of such a righteous King.

그리고 새해에는 하나님의 말씀에 더 귀를 기울이고 따르실 수 있기를 축원드립니다.
And in the new year, I ask you to listen to and follow the Word of God more.

사랑의 하나님,
우리를 구원하시려고 하늘의 영광을 포기하고 이 땅에 내려오신 예수님의 은혜에 감사합니다.
왕이신 하나님의 은총을 입었사오니, 저희들도 새해에 더욱 복종하고 헌신하며 살아가게 도와주옵소서!
오늘 드린 예배와 헌금을 통해서 하나님 영광 받아 주옵소서!
감사드리며 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도합니다.
God of love, 
Thank You for Your grace, which meant giving up the glory of heaven and coming down to this earth to save us. 
We have received the grace of God the King, so please help us to live in more obedience and devotion to You in the new year! 
May You be glorified through today's worship and offerings! We thank You and I pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
